What is dermaplaning?
A dermaplaning treatment will help to restore your skin’s glow while creating a smoother surface. It targets different concerns that include dullness, uneven tone and those nasty breakouts.
Dermaplaning is a form of physical exfoliation. Our skin specialist, Sara, gently skims away the dead skin cells and any fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). The removal of dead skin cells allows for your Alumier MD or other home care products to be more effectively absorbed.
Dermaplaning can be a stand-alone treatment or an add-on with your Hydrafacial or the Renew 30 Alumier peel! Fine facial hair gradually grows back over several weeks, but it will not change in colour, thickness or appearance as a result of your dermaplaning treatment. You don’t need to worry about ending up with more hair.
How long do the results last from Dermaplaning?
Every time you receive this service, your skin is stimulated to turn over cells and renew; the full results typically last three weeks.

Number of Treatments
Monthly treatments are a great way to maintain the look achieved from dermaplaning.
-
Accutane should be stopped for 6-12 months prior (as per Health Canada guidelines).
-
Within 14 days of the appointment, refrain from having Botox/Filler/Chemical Peels/Laser Treatments.
-
Within 7 days of your appointment, stop using Retinol, Retin-A or Vitamin A, or acidic products such as Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), Glycolic or Salicylic Acid.
-
Call to postpone if you have inflamed acne, open cuts or scratches.
-
Read the consent and after care form.
-
-
Our skin care specialists will suggest a free consultation before any treatment.
-
Once we establish that dermaplaning is the proper treatment for you, your skin is gently cleansed, and our skin care specialist gently skims away the dead skin with a surgical grade, sterile, #10 scalpel blade. The scalpel blade is carefully stroked along the skin at an angle to effectively “shave off” the dead skin cells and any fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). At the same time, some superficial blackheads are often removed with this same technique.
-
-
There is minimal to no recovery time needed, but you may experience slight redness for a few days after treatment.
-
On the day of the treatment (or if redness/sensitivity is present) avoid hot environments (sunny days outdoors/tanning beds/saunas/hot tubs or showers) or vigorous exercise.
-
Use the post-care treatment products for 7 days.
-
Refrain from sun exposure for 2 days and use SPF 30 or higher when outdoors.
-
Do not pick, scratch, pull, or rub your skin as this will harm it and can scar/lead to pigmentation changes.
-
Refrain from Botox, filler, strong chemical peels or laser treatments for 2 weeks.

What to expect from dermaplaning
Try a Derma-Peel for the best of both worlds
Combine dermaplaning with AlumierMD’s Renew 30 Peel to gently remove your skin’s outer layers, making the peel’s chemical solution far more effective. It is perfect for sensitive skin types, with minimal downtime.
