What is LATISSE® growth serum?

LATISSE® is a bimatoprost ophthalmic solution of 0.03% that was approved for lash growth in 2001. Dr. Brooks is the prescriber for LATISSE® at Essentials Medi Spa.

LATISSE® works by prolonging the “growth phase,” so your eyelashes continue growing and falling off slower. As a result, you will have both longer and more eyelashes.

How long do the results last from LATISSE® growth serum?

The onset of the effect from LATISSE® is gradual, but is not significantly noticeable in most patients until two months.

The lasting effect of LATISSE® is not permanent. You can expect to see your lashes gradually return to your original lash length upon treatment discontinuation.

    • Essentials Medi Spa carries the 5 mL bottle of LATISSE® (there is also a 3 mL bottle).

    • The cost is $200.00, including tax.

    • We provide a receipt you can use to log your Brilliant Distinctions points for each purchase of Latisse 5ml.

    • LATISSE® should be applied every night using only the accompanying sterile applicators.  Start by ensuring your face is clean, all makeup is removed, and your contact lenses are removed (if applicable).

    • Carefully place one drop of LATISSE® solution on the disposable sterile applicator and brush cautiously along the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes.  Only use the applicator supplied with the product once and discard it since reusing applicators could result in contamination.

    • Avoid contamination- do not allow the tip of the bottle or applicator to contact with surrounding structures, fingers, or any other unintended surface to avoid the introduction of common bacteria known to cause eye infections.  Serious infections may result from using contaminated solutions or applicators.

    • If any LATISSE® solution gets into the eye, it will not cause harm. The eye should not be rinsed.

    • Do not apply to the lower eyelash line. Any excess solution outside the upper eyelid margin should be blotted with a tissue or other absorbent material.

    • There is potential for Intraocular Pressure Effects. LATISSE® may lower intraocular pressure, although not to a level that will cause clinical harm.
In patients using LUMIGAN® or other prostaglandin analogs to treat elevated intraocular pressure, the concomitant use of LATISSE® may interfere with the desired reduction in IOP. Patients using prostaglandin analogs for IOP reduction should only use LATISSE® after consulting with their family physician.

    • Potential for eyelid skin darkening- it is possible to experience eyelid skin darkening, which may be reversible after discontinuation of LATISSE®.

    • Potential for iris darkening- there is potential for increased brown iris pigmentation, which is likely to be permanent.  This was demonstrated in clinical trials but in extremely low numbers.

    • Increased iris pigmentation occurred when bimatoprost solution was administered.

    • Potential for unexpected hair growth or eyelash changes- the possibility of hair growth occurring outside of the target treatment area if LATISSE® repeatedly touches the skin area outside the treatment area. There is also the possibility of uneven symmetry in eyelash length, thickness, pigmentation, number of eyelashes or vellus hairs, and/or direction of eyelash growth. Eyelash changes are likely reversible upon discontinuation of treatment.

    • If you develop a new ocular condition (e.g., trauma or infection), experience a sudden decrease in visual acuity, have ocular surgery, or develop any ocular reactions, particularly conjunctivitis and
eyelid reactions, you should immediately seek your physician’s advice concerning the continued use of LATISSE®.

    • Patients on IOP-lowering medications should not use LATISSE® without consulting their physician.

    • Use with Contact Lenses – LATISSE® solution contains benzalkonium chloride, which may be absorbed by and cause discoloration of soft contact lenses. Contact lenses should be removed before application of LATISSE® and may be reinserted 15 minutes following its administration.
