Learn everything you need to know about laser skin resurfacing and how this treatment can help transform your skin to become oh-so-radiant!
What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing And How Does It Work?
Laser skin resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure that uses focused energy to improve skin texture, reduce imperfections, and promote collagen production. The laser targets specific skin layers, stimulates natural healing processes, and encourages the growth of new, healthier skin cells. The result is a smoother, more youthful complexion.
Laser skin resurfacing has become a game-changer in the world of aesthetic treatments by offering a non-invasive solution that targets many skin concerns. It’s a popular choice for those wanting to enhance their skin’s appearance.
At Essentials Medi Spa, we use the advanced PicoWay laser, which delivers ultra-short laser pulses to the skin. This system provides effective results with minimal downtime.
Laser Skin Resurfacing Treats Many Conditions
Acne scarring
A significant advantage of laser resurfacing is its ability to minimize the appearance of acne scars. By stimulating collagen production, the treatment helps smooth out uneven skin texture which can reduce the visibility of scars.
Surface pigment
If you struggle with sun spots, age spots, or other forms of hyperpigmentation, laser resurfacing can effectively target and break down excess melanin to reveal a more even skin tone.
Fine lines and wrinkles
By now you know, laser surfacing promotes collagen production. It also promotes elastin–the protein that provides stretchiness and strength–production which helps to soften fine lines and wrinkles. Laser resurfacing is particularly effective for addressing fine lines in the face that may not be suitable for fillers.
Pores and skin texture improvements
This treatment can also refine pore size and improve your skin’s overall texture. Hello smooth, glowing skin!
PicoWay Laser Benefits
At Essentials Medi Spa, we use the powerful PicoWay laser, which delivers ultra-short laser pulses to the skin.
PicoWay provides exceptional results with minimal downtime, which means less disruption to your daily life than other laser systems. The non-heat of the PicoWay laser is also the safest option for darker skin tones.
Other laser types and differences
The PicoWay laser is more powerful (with a peak power of 0.9GW) than the PicoSure laser (peaks at 0.36GW).
PicoWay Resolve, a treatment on the PicoWay laser system that we use here at Essential Medi Spa, achieves similar benefits as the popular Morpheus8 Resurfacing used for skin rejuvenation treatments.
A Morpheus8 treatment is an advanced skin treatment that combines microneedling with radiofrequency technology to achieve significant skin tightening, wrinkle reduction and scar remodelling. The benefits of a Morpheus8 treatment include increased collagen production, lifting and tightening your loose skin, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, fading stretch marks, acne scars or surgical scars, and helping diminish fat.
A C02 laser is another powerful laser option. The C02 laser requires a significant amount of downtime (a week or more) and is much more aggressive on the skin, so we don’t offer it as an option.
How Do I Prepare And How Many Treatments Will I Need?
We always go over specific preparation and post-treatment care instructions with you during your personalized consultation. Pre-treatment, we recommend Alumier’s prep and enhance protocol, including:
EverActive C&E® + Peptide
Ultimate Boost Serum
Retinol Resurfacing Serum 0.5
Clear Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 42
The exact number of treatments we recommend for optimal results depends on your individual skin concerns and goals. Most patients see significant improvements after three to four sessions. For most skin concerns, treatments are scheduled four to six weeks apart.
Downtime Expectations
One of the major benefits of our PicoWay laser is its reduced downtime. You may experience some redness and mild swelling immediately after treatment. Your skin may appear like you have a mild sunburn for about 24 to 48 hours. Any visible signs usually resolve within a few days, so you can return to your normal routine and activities quickly. It’s a convenient option for those with busy lifestyles. SPF mineral makeup can be applied the same day following treatment.
Is It Painful?
Most patients describe PicoWay laser treatments as mildly uncomfortable. The sensation is like a mild pinching, stinging, or snapping and the level of discomfort depends on the individual. After treatment, the skin may feel sensitive similar to a mild sunburn.
How Do I Know If Laser Skin Resurfacing Is For Me?
